The Danger of Forgetting God: Jeremiah’s Warning

As we celebrate the Fourth of July and America’s 250th birthday, we are reminded of the warning God gave through Jeremiah to the people of Judah. They placed their confidence in the strength of their nation, the Temple, and the peace and prosperity they enjoyed, while forgetting the God who had given them those blessings. We too should be grateful for our country and the freedoms we enjoy, but our ultimate trust must always be in God rather than in our nation’s strength or success. Let us never forget God’s hand of provision in our own lives and in our nation.
